People Making Money Online

I have stopped playing Everquest when the level cap was 70.

Several years ago.

I had a level 70 Wizard & Beastlord. It took me 3 years to build these characters up, the leveling was so slow & I had only a limited amount of time in which to play, Family, Friends & work always came first.

I quit because I realised just how little I was getting from the game in terms of real life advantages in the real world.

I still have 1 friend who still plays it. His hours of play are about 5 YEARS out of the 8 or so EQ has been around.

No surprises then that hes single - no job, 37 & lives with his mum.

When I visit him he is always on a raid & has very little time for me while I'm there.

So I re-activated my account for a month just to see if the game still had any interest to me. My friend invited me into his guild which lead me to a raid that night.

I arrived at the raid meeting point then spent 3 hrs waiting on everyone showing up, getting ready etc...

I sat there numb watching everyone floating up & down in levitate spells. It all came back to me in a rush.

It was like watching a film you have seen a million times but never really liked. I found the blank wall next to my monitor more interesting to stare at.

Finally the raid got underway... 10mins later 60+ dead people & a promise of another 3 hr wait while everyone recovers....

I logged off. Deleted the EQ folder, snapped the disks & felt so much better for it.

Never ever ever ever again. NeverQuest.

Guild wars rocked as I could log in play a good game no matter what level I was, then not play it again for months without falling behind my friends so badly that it was a problem.

Guild wars 2 - promises a blend of the original GW & current style MMO's like WOW. Free to play - and most importantly no need to get 30hrs a week in just to be cool.

As part of the ongoing Mashable Awards, we’re taking a closer look at each of the nomination categories. This is “Must-Follow Non-Profit.” Be sure to nominate your favorites and join us for the Gala in Las Vegas! Sponsorships are available. Please contact sponsorships@mashable.com for more information.

When it comes to social good, the name of the game is creating or inspiring change, and often with limited resources. That’s why social media is so important for non-profit organizations. By allowing organizations to reach more people with less money, social media has become an integral part of the non-profit toolbox.

Groups are using social media a variety of ways, from raising money to engaging with constituents on personal and meaningful levels. The most important thing social media offers for non-profits, though, is a highly effective channel to spread awareness about their cause. “Having 10 million people is more important than $10 million,” Change.org founder and CEO Ben Rattray told Mashable recently. “For advocacy you need to mobilize people, and the web helps you mobilize people like never before.”

There are any number of worthy non-profit organizations utilizing social media in new and interesting ways; below are five that caught our eye this year as must-follow groups. Please share in the comments any other non-profits you think deserve a follow and nominate them for a Mashable Award.

1. Brooklyn Museum

More than just a great art museum, the Brooklyn Museum is one of the most social media-savvy organizations on the planet. From a mobile website that lets visitors tag items in the gallery (which, in turn, helps to organize the museum’s vast, 94,000-record online collection) to a Foursquareclass="blippr-nobr">Foursquare account that offers tips for things to do in the neighborhood and rewards mayors with special parties and other offers, the Brooklyn Museum is hip to the latest social media trends.

What’s really great about the museum, which can also be found on Tumblrclass="blippr-nobr">Tumblr, Flickrclass="blippr-nobr">Flickr, Facebookclass="blippr-nobr">Facebook, YouTubeclass="blippr-nobr">YouTube, and Twitterclass="blippr-nobr">Twitter, is that the staff is not afraid to innovate and try new things. They’re constantly testing out new social platforms and innovating new ways to use their current social media accounts. They even share the code behind some of their best ideas on GitHub!

2. Sesame Street Workshop

Sesame Street Workshop is the non-profit organization behind the beloved children’s classic television series Sesame Street, among others. And despite being 41 years old, these cats — er, Muppets — really know social media.

You can find your favorite Sesame Street residents on Twitter and Facebook (characters like Elmo, Big Bird and Oscar have their own class='blippr-nobr'>Pagesclass="blippr-nobr">pages). Where the Workshop really excels, however, is YouTube. Sesame Street Workshop has made its biggest social media splash on YouTube, with exclusive content that often features celebrity guests and frequent parodies of other digital media memes, such as the Google search stories or the Old Spice Guy, that prove the people behind Sesame Street know their stuff.

3. WildlifeDirect

Founded in 2006 by noted African conservationist Dr. Richard Leakey, WildlifeDirect aims to save endangered animals in Africa. The organization helps local conservation groups around Africa raise funds, awareness and support for their conservation projects.

WildlifeDirect can be found on many of the usual social media networks, such as Twitter and Facebook, but where it really shines is blogging. The organization has set up an active blog network of more than 100 field blogs penned by conservation groups across Africa. The blogs are one of the main drivers of donations to the conservation work that the organization supports, but they also offer a fascinating look into the struggle to save endangered species in some of the most diverse and threatened areas on Earth.

4. Kids Are Heroes

Founded in 2008 by Gabe O’Neill and his then 9-year-old daughter, MaryMargaret, Kids Are Heroes is a non-profit group that has the admirable goal of inspiring children to get involved in the act of giving back. The website offers profiles of more than 100 kids who have at a young age (some as young as 5-years-old!) had a meaningful impact on their communities and the world — whether by training diabetic service dogs, donating books to low-income families, or raising millions of dollars for out-of-work war veterans. The organization’s message is loud and clear: Kids can make a difference.

Along with the inspiring stories, the Kids Are Heroes website allows children to send “shout outs” to one another, and the group maintains active and engaging Twitter and Facebook accounts.

5. Darius Goes West

Darius Weems and the Darius Goes West project is a force to be reckoned with. Afflicted with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) — a genetic degenerative muscular disease that killed his older brother — Darius and 11 of his friends set out six years ago to travel across America with the ultimate goal of getting Darius’ wheelchair customized on MTV’s Pimp My Ride. The group filmed that trip and turned it into the much-celebrated documentary film, Darius Goes West.

Six years later, Darius Goes West has become a movement — non-profit vehicle to raise money and awareness for the search for a DMD cure that now seems so tantalizingly close. Darius, who continues to defy the odds, recently turned 21 years old and the Darius Goes West crew continue to come up with innovative ways to spread their message and raise money using social media. From raising money through Facebook widgets to inspiring people to do crazy things in the name of charity, Darius Goes West is a must-follow cause for their innovation and unflappable humor.

From raising money through Facebook widgets to inspiring people to do crazy things in the name of charity, Darius Goes West is a must-follow cause for their innovation and unflappable humor.

big seminar 14

I stumbled upon Moola by accident. On my quest to make money online, I was looking at some forums. One of them suggested a site were you get paid to play video games. I love making money online and I love video games so this sounded perfect.

Moola is a pretty cool site. Moola starts you of with 1 cent. The goal is to bet that one cent on one of their games and double up enough to make serious cash. This is easier said than done and I have not won more than 5 consecutive games in a row.

The games are really fun though. As of the date this article is published there are 3 games. They are "Gold Rush", "Hi-Lo", and "Ro-Sham-Bo-Fu". Gold Rush is a game with 6 rounds in which you have 6 nuggets. The goal is to get your nuggets to outweigh the opponents nuggets and win that round. Once you win a round, that score goes to your final total. The person with the most points at the end wins. Sounds a little complicated but it is really easy. The only problem I have with this game is that it ends in a tie too often. "Hi-Lo" is easy enough. You try and guess if the next card is going to be higher or lower than the last card. The strategy come in when you have to decided when to lock down. This is my favorite game on the site. "Ro-Sham-Bo-Fu" is your standard rock-paper-scissors with a twist. Each round you are offered a bonus if you don't use the selected motion. The game is the most strategic of all the games and requires a lot of thinking.

Before you can play any of these games you have to watch an advertisement and answer a question about it. I hate looking at advertisements but they do have to make that penny somehow. It's kind of clever really. You will definitely have to remember the commercial.

There are a number of other ways to make money on Moola. The one I like the most is the Search and Win category. You simply use their Snap.com search engine and once a day you get a bonus booster. A bonus booster wheel is like a Wheel of Fortune wheel with a bunch of cent values on it. They have a few big ones on it but I doubt anyone will ever get it. The Snap.com search engine is kind of cool too. It previews all of the sites on a sidebar before you view them. Another way to make money is going to the Booster Zone. Once there you will find a Booster Shopping Mall and a Cash Back section. This is a kind of CashCrate-esque section of the site where you make money filling out offers. I personally only like free offers because I don't have a credit card and it all seems a bit sketchy. But for those of you who love filling out offers this portion of the site is great!

The referral section is the most unique of its kind. No one can simply go to Moola and sign up for an account. A person has to be referred to use the site. Each member is given a few referrals at a time to give away. The referral section is based on a 4 tier system. The way you make money on referrals is by people filling out offers or cashing out. Cashing out is hard to do if you only play the games so if you are looking to make money you have to either do some of the offers, refer a lot of people, or get really REALLY lucky.

Overall, I really like Moola. You probably won't make a lot of money online but you WILL have fun. If you need a referral either go to the Moola Invites Forum or go to my Content Producer website. I have a few referrals if you want to be a part of this growing and fun community.

Being Right or Making Money

Daniel Greenfield aptly sums up the prevailing madness and denial as it played out recently in the sentencing of Times Square would-be jihad bomber Faisal Shahzad. "It's About The Jihad, Stupid," by Daniel Greenfield in Eurasia Review, October 11:

So at long last the case of the Times Square Bomber is over and we heard it straight from the camel's mouth, that Faisal Shahzad wasn't upset over his mortgage or angry over Obamacare-- he was what he had always been, a Muslim terrorist trying to kill infidels in the name of Islam.

After the attempted attacked, the liberal media insisted on painting Faisal Shahzad as a tragic victim of the mortgage crisis, suggesting that the whole "car bomb near the Lion King" matter could have been averted with more government bailouts of borrowers who weren't paying their bills. That is how the axis of liberal media responds to every act of Muslim terrorism, by blaming Republicans and offering their own policies as the solution.

Worried about airplane hijackings? Elect us, and we'll make the Muslim world love us with hearty doses of appeasement and long deep bows. Afraid of shootings at army bases, vote the right way and we'll pull out all the troops so no more kindly Muslim psychiatrists come down with secondhand PTSD. Worried about car bombs, with more socialism no one will want to car bomb Times Square anymore.

But then Faisal Shahzad ruined everything by opening his mouth. "This is but one life," he said. "If I am given a thousand lives, I will sacrifice them all for the sake of Allah, fighting this cause, defending our lands, making the word of Allah supreme over any religion or system."

The Judge did her usual liberal shtick, foolishly lecturing Shahzad on how moderate Islam is. She suggested that Shahzad should "spend some of the time in prison thinking carefully about whether the Koran wants you to kill lots of people".

But who knows better what Islam really represents, Faisal Shahzad or Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum? Clearly Miriam thinks she knows better, as Time Magazine and Newsweek and the New York Times insist that they know Islam, better than the Muslims who keep misunderstanding what Islam really is.

But Shahzad wasn't quoting some wacky preacher living in a cave somewhere, he was quoting the Koran. The same book that Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer suggested might be illegal to burn. The same book that Democrats and many Republicans insist is really a beautiful book that teaches tolerance. Unlike Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum, Faisal Shahzad didn't need to spend a whole lot of time thinking about whether the Koran really wants him to kill lots of people. He could just read it...

"He it is who has sent His Messenger (Mohammed) with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam) to make it victorious over all religions even though the infidels may resist." Koran 61:9

That is the source of Faisal Shahzad's justification for his Jihad.

But surely this lovely verse has nothing to do with violence, you might say. It just means that Muslims should go out and persuade people that Islam is the only true religion. That sounds convincing, doesn't it?

Except Koran 61 is titled, "Al-Saff" or "Ranks, Battle Array". That title comes from verse 61:4 which proclaims, "Truly Allah loves those who fight in His Cause in battle array". The next two verses go on to curse the Jews, like Judge Miriam Goldman Cedarbaum, for their unbelief.

Two verses down from Faisal Shahzad's quote, the Koran promises Muslims a way to save themselves from hell. What's their "Get Out of Hell" free card? "That ye strive (your utmost) in the Cause of Allah, with your property and your persons." The Arabic word used for "strive" is, "watujahidoona" or "You will make Jihad".

Yes. It's the Jihad, stupid.

Faisal Shahzad didn't lose his home to foreclosure because of the injustice of the American banking system. He gave up his home to foreclosure because he was using that money to build a bomb instead. This wasn't some sort of radicalization in response to failure, it was a plan all along.

He led the facade of a normal life. He got a good job and a mortgage. He had a line of credit. And he had Facebook. And then right after he got US citizenship, he quit his job, went to Pakistan for explosives training, and the Times Square Car bombing was set into motion. He didn't lose his home, he abandoned it. The home and the job, and the rest of the facade of the American Dream was a sham, a disguise. Just like the 9/11 hijackers.

Faisal Shahzad was carrying out the words of the Koran, to use his property and person to carry on the Jihad against the unbelievers. His property and money were assets in a religious war.

The media refuses to understand that. Even the judge sentencing him refuses to understand that. Instead Faisal Shahzad is being treated like some sort of stupid child who doesn't know his own religion, even though he has practiced it all his life and probably knows the entire Koran by heart.

Isn't presuming to know what Islam is about better than Muslims do, the same kind of arrogance toward the Muslim world that liberals routinely accuse America of? And doesn't that drive Muslims toward greater acts of terror just to define clearly what Islam really is? In the words of the Ayatollah Khomeni; "Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless... Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for the Holy Warriors!"

That is the great liberal farce, in which liberals begin by lecturing Americans on what Islam really is, and then conclude by lecturing Muslims on what Islam really is. And the Muslims laugh in their faces, when they aren't blowing them off. Liberals haven't convinced very many Americans that Islam is a religion of peace, and they certainly aren't going to convince very many Muslims....

Online writing jobs provide recession-proof work for anyone who can read, write and has a computer. This is an easy career to start; one where you can literally start making money right away. So what types of work is available for those who want to work from home as a freelance writer, earning money completely online? Following are a few.

Types of Online Writing Jobs

1. Blogging for Internet Marketers and Affiliate Marketers: There are plenty of online writing jobs in the blogging sector. Why? Because there are affiliate marketers and other online marketers who make their living running several blogs at once.

Some may operate 10, 50 or 100 blogs or more. And, they simply don't have the time to write copy for all of them. So, they hire freelance writers to write blog posts. These posts are usually short -- 150-250 words.

The rate for this is usually in the $5 to $20 per post range. Although there are freelance blog writers who make much more, depending on the topic.

2. SEO Article Writing: What is this? SEO is the acronym for search engine optimization. Search engine optimization is just a fancy phrase for writing copy in such a way that it helps web surfers to easily find things online.

For example, if you wanted to find out about SEO writing, what would you type into your favorite search engine to do that? You'd probably go to Google or Yahoo or MSN and type in "what is SEO" or "SEO copywriting?" Something along those lines, right?

Then, pages and pages of results would pop up. Once they do, you'd start clicking to read up on the subject. The phrases "what is SEO" an "SEO copywriting" are called keyword phrases. SEO article writers write web content using keyword phrases supplied by the firms who hire them.

You can make $15, $25, $35 or more per 350-500 word article as an SEO article writer.

3. Special Report Writing for Corporate America: Another lucrative sector of the online freelance writing jobs market is special report writing. Companies hire freelance writers to produce special reports on everything from how to effectively work with a web designer to how to buy car insurance online.

You can charge anywhere from $10 to $35 per page -- on the low end, for these reports. Yes, per page!

The reason companies are so willing to pay freelance writers to do special reports is that they use them as sales tools. They may use them as free giveaways for signing up to a newsletter, or as an enticement to take a one-day seminar (that cost a few thousand bucks). And, paying a freelance writer a few hundred dollars is a drop in the bucket compared to what these reports make for companies when used as sales tool.

As you can see, there are many types of online writing jobs. And, you don't need any special education to pursue them. All you need is a computer, a simple website, some marketing muscle and a desire to succeed.

The beauty of online writing jobs is that you never have to worry about being laid off -- ever. Now that's job security!
